Introduction |
|
Chemistry is a basic science, overlapping
Biology, Physics, Pharmacy and Material Sciences. Chemical discoveries, chemical
strategy (synthesis) and chemical understanding sustain the most successful major
industry in Pakistan. Chemistry is fundamental and applied; it provides the foundation
on which our understanding of the natural and material world depends and its applications sustain our way of life. The University of Sargodha inherited the valuable traditions
of postgraduate Department of Chemistry, which was established in 1991. The untiring
efforts of the faculty members made it possible that the talented students of this
department secured first positions/gold medals in M.Sc. Chemistry Examinations of
the Punjab University for three consecutive years i.e. 1997 to 1999. The department
has started higher level research programs such as Ph.D.and M.Phil. leading to Ph.D.;
designed to meet the ever growing needs in the field of modern sciences. A number
of projects in the field of modern research are being supervised by a group of highly
experienced teachers. These research projects of inter-discipinary nature are being
run with the collaboration of Pharmacy and Physics Departments. The department has
also started BS-4 year program in 2005 under semester system. With the addition
of some
new faculty members holding Ph.D. degree, whom seven are HEC approved research
supervisors, the department
aims at the excellence in chemistry. The M.S./M.Phil.
leading to Ph.D. programme in Analytical/Inorganic, Organic and Physical chemistry
is already in operation. |

Career Opportunities |
|
Our graduates find posts in industrial
laboratories, in the management of science-based industries, in basic research laboratories,
schools, higher education, the scientific Civil Service and commerce etc. The degree
of Chemistry provides a stimulating academic challenge, as well as an excellent
foundation for a wide range of careers in modern science-based industry and research
including product development.
